In the manipulation of mathematic tradition within his collection of painstaking pen on paper drawings, the resulting patterns and prospective topologies of space systematically reconfigure perspective and geometry, creating an interplay between dimensions and an illusory examination of space.

Oscillating between celestial and microscopic scales, the urban specimens he draws disorientate with their presentation of unnavigable and inhospitable surfaces, chasmic depths, distances and impossible architectures.

His use of negative space and voids both construct and disrupt a sense of compositional wholeness within prospective architectural space.  Fissures and tears which are created by the omission of drawing provide structural information in their exploration with edges and boundaries. There is an ephemeral and ambiguous interjection of the unrealised, where the city is both at once appearing and disappearing, subjected to imagined and unseen forces and patterns of emergent growth.  The resulting tangled shadows and obstructions which obscure the otherwise rigid compositional coordinates create layers of megastructural pattern and systems which explore the indeterminacy and improvisation inherent within the very act of drawing, often subject to and in defiance of rational scientific or mathematical understandings.

Alex originally trained for a BA in Drama at The University of Hull and and MA in Visual Language of Performance at Wimbledon School of Art.  His work has been exhibited nationally in galleries including MK Gallery, London Art Fair and the Anise Gallery.  His award-winning international projects include multi-disciplinary collaborations and residencies in Australia, Japan, the Maldives and across Europe.  In 2017 he was appointed as the first ever Artist in Residence at London's iconic Tower Bridge. He lives and works in London.
